CONNECTING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS IN THE ATLANTIC COMMUNITY

The Atlantic Council is dedicated to identifying and connecting the emerging generation of young leaders from both sides of the Atlantic and beyond. The Young Atlanticist Program places its members at the helm, providing a plaform for them to share their policy ideas, network with peers and leading figures, and to participate in unique professional development opportunities.  The program is strictly non-partisan, and a project of the Atlantic Council of the United States.

The Power of Convening:

The Young Atlanticist Program is a proven leader in bringing together today’s top policymakers and tomorrow’s leaders for in-depth and open discussions. We have organized youth events at five NATO summits, each time bringing together 130-180 future leaders from over fifty countries to meet with top Alliance and national decision-makers. Young Atlanticists have met with: President Barack Obama, Czech President Vaclav Havel, Turkish Prime Minister Recip Tayyip Erdogan, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon, General David Petraeus, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband, and NATO Secretaries General Lord Robertson, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, and Anders Fogh Rassmussen, among others.

Synergizing Online and Offline Activity: The Young Atlanticist Program seeks to tie together online and offline programming, in order to effectively build relationships between the next generation of leaders.  We strive to harness the power of new media and social networking technologies to compliment our in person events, and broadcast our programming to a wider audience of young leaders in the Atlantic Community.  When appropriate, we also actively seek to help build the public profile of our members by encouraging them to publish and comment in the media - new and traditional alike.  In addition to several online placements, Young Atlanticists have been featured in: BBC Television and Radio; PBS; Agencie France Press; and over thirty other news outlets worldwide.

On the Horizon: The Young Atlanticist Program is currently administering five large scale projects, more information on which can be found on "Our Projects" page.  Our current work focuses on security issues; environmental and energy issues; the Middle East/North Africa; and much more.  We are constantly adding new programming so please check back frequently for updates.
